UCT Team to the International and European Tax Moot Court Competition in Belgium
In an achievement of international acclamation, a UCT team of promising and bright minded international tax masters students have been selected for representation by the University of Leuven and the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD) for inclusion into the International and European Tax Moot Court Competition in Belgium. After a rigorous process of intense technical research and lengthy external moderation beginning in October of 2016, the teams written memoranda, which assessed and sought to resolve the complexity of the taxation of dual tax residents and pension funds, was reviewed and included for representation in the competition. Along with 18 other international universities, this achievement is welcomed acknowledgement for the work performed by the UCT students and faculty, who represent a first ever African entrant qualifying for inclusion in the esteemed competition of longstanding faculty experts in the field of International Taxation. We wish the team well as they prepare for their oral submissions at the University of Leuven and itinerary in the European Commission later this month.
The Masters of Commerce and Masters of Law program with specialisation in International Taxation is run jointly with UCT’s Department of Finance and Tax and Department of Commercial Law, together with its affiliation to the UCT Tax Institute for Fiscal Research.
